Volunteer Opportunity

We need four to five women who would like to serve breakfast at the Church of
Mary Magdalene on Saturday, April 3rd. It is a church for homeless and formally
homeless women. We will carpool from the Brickyard Park and Ride at 9:20 and
will return by either 11 or 12, if we are able to stay for the singing. If you can
not come but would like to donate homemade muffins, fruit, or juice, that is always
welcome! Interested? Please contact the church office.

22 Nov 2009 Sr. High at Tent City

Six Sr. High youth and four adults (3 Sr. High leaders & 1 parent) went to Bellevue First United Methodist Church to serve dinner for the residents of Tent City 4. We prepared the meal in the kitchen at BFUMC and served 24 Costco pizza's, 9 pounds of salad and 300 homemade cookies that were baked by our Y-FI Group. We served the meal outside in a tarped canopy area. Approximately 75 residents enjoyed the meal & were very appreciative. Our group was also able to eat and visit with some of the folks.

Up coming Service opportunities:
22 November 2009 - The Sr. High youth group is serving dinner at Tent City 4.

December 2009 - The Deacons are sponsoring a Giving Tree for Hopelink.

As this blog gets started here's a summary of the service and mission activities IPC has been involved with recently:

14 November 2009
Four women from our church served breakfast at the Church of Mary Magdalene next to the Denny Park Lutheran Church in Seattle. They arrived on a very cold morning, where their breakfast of homemade muffins, pigs in a blanket, juice, milk, and fresh fruit were gratefully received by over 30 women. We are always touched by getting a chance to visit with women from very different backgrounds than ourselves, but with the same love for our Savior and Lord. You should hear them sing! A few people from church had made or donated warm scarves, and several of these were passed out that morning. We also saw a cold young woman receive a jacket.

11 November 2009
The Y-FI group (Young Families at Inglewood) held a cookie baking fest with their children. They made 300 cookies for the Tent City Dinner on Nov 22, and another 170 cookies which will go to another homebaked goods feeding mission in the near future.

27 October 2009
A representative of KITH (Kirkland Interfaith Transitional Housing) came and spoke at Love in Action’s meeting. KITH began in 1989 as a faith response to homelessness on the Eastside. KITH now owns several apartment buildings that are currently housing 90-100 people. Each family is assigned a counselor and provided services for two years to help them become self-sufficient. KITH partners with other organizations (ex. Hopelink) to provide needed services. Service + Housing = Stability

Sock-It-To-The-Homeless
Two members of our congregation delivered the large box full of socks that were collected for Operation Nightwatch. We were given a tour of the low-income senior apartments above the dispatch center. The rooms are clean, bright, and each has the mark of its occupant. The men pay a small amount of rent each month from their social security or disability check. They share a common bathroom and kitchen.
